Frequently asked questions.

What should I wear?
I always say wear what makes you feel most confident! When you feel good, it shows! That said, I do have some general rules I vaguely follow.
Pick something that fits and complements your body.
I like to choose colors that complement the backdrop while still standing out. For example, burnt orange looks amazing against the mossy greens of the forest, crimson looks stunning in a field of golden grass, deep teal stands out on a white sand beach.
Another detail I love playing with is a statement piece. This is especially relevant to branding or lifestyle sessions. A hat, your favorite boots or heels, a leather fringe jacket, chunky jewelry, the possibilities are endless. It gives you a prop to interact with (something to do with your hands!) and adds a bit of personal flair.
By the way, what do I do with my hands?
This may be the number one question. I’ve got you. I like to give verbal directions so that you are never left wondering. Typically I will direct you to do an action (for example, “brush your hair out of your face,” “pop your collar,” “grab her hand and pull her in close,” etc.). This gets you moving naturally and takes your mind off of the small details so you can get into the flow of the session and have fun.
What’s the best way to relax before and during our photo session?
Remember to breathe, always. It’s a good reminder for life in general.
Know that getting professional photos done is a worthwhile investment in yourself, your confidence, and your time capsule of memories.
Try to get enough rest, take care of yourself, eat something (protein pre-shoot is great), drink some water, drink a hard beverage, heck pop a whole bottle of champagne if you like (this doubles as a fantastic prop).
One of my biggest goals for each session is to have fun. Explore, create, be yourself or be a character, be as quiet and shy or as loud and wild as you want! You’re safe with me.
Will you pose me/us?
Of course! I will pose you in a way that feels fun and natural. I give directions, guide you while letting you move naturally, and then make any small adjustments to capture you looking your best. I love candid shots with movement and life to them so nothing too “pose-y” unless that is the look we are specifically going for (ie. editorial photos, etc.).
Do you edit all of the photos?
The first thing I do when I get back from a session is backup all of the files. Once I sort the photo from our session, I select the best ones and edit them. When they are ready, I deliver an online gallery with proofs of all of the edited photos and you select your favorites (the number photos included in each session varies).
I edit all of my photos in my style, as can be viewed in my portfolio and on my social media.
For lifestyle, branding and artist promo sessions, I am open to working out a custom color palette for you.
I do not deliver RAW or unedited files, as they are incomplete works of art.
How will my gallery be delivered?
I deliver all galleries online through Pixieset, where you can download your high (full) resolution digital files after you have selected your favorite photos from the session.
If you would like to make prints and/or need custom file sizing, please ask! I want your photos to look their best on your walls. :)
Do you travel?
I do travel! I am currently based on Vancouver Island, in Victoria, BC, Canada. I travel frequently to Vancouver BC, Smithers BC, Kamloops BC, and everywhere in between.
My standard rates apply to the Greater Victoria Area.
I am always looking for the next adventure and am open to working out creative solutions to make travel sessions happen. Want to hire me but you live far away? Let’s chat!
